  • What is Kutani ware?

From From “Library” in 2020

With a history of more than 360 years, Kutani ware is a color painting ceramic that represents Japan. The biggest feature is the ornate “top painting”, and the color painting decoration by the “Five Colors Hand” (commonly known as Kutani Gosai) of red, yellow, green, purple, and navy blue is particularly well known. In addition, various styles have been devised, such as “Akae Saibi” (red painting fine drawing), which makes extensive use of fine writing with red paint, “Kinrande”, which paints a bowl mainly painted with red and filled with gold only colors, and “Aochibu”, which depicts a dense collection of green fine spots on top of the ground color.
