Osaka Karaki Sashino : Yukira Kihara

April 4, 2014 I visited Yukira Kihara, who is performing at Aoyama Square.

Basic knowledge of Osaka Karaki fingering

What is Karaki fingering??

Write “Karaki” and read “Karaki”. It means a tree that came from the country of the Tang Dynasty.
Some of the things brought back by envoys to Tang Dynasty China in the Nara period were made using wood that does not produce in Japan,
These materials are famous trees such as rosewood, ebony, tetsutoki, and karin.
It is said that this tree was called a tang tree and karaki.

Karaki is very hard, so the angle of the blade of the tool to be used is also different from normal,
It seems that general carpenter tools cannot be used as it is.

The photo above is an important tool of Mr. Kihara who always carries it with you during the demonstration.
You can see that it is palm size even if you compare it with the size of the ballpoint pen next door.

As a traditional craftsman of Osaka Karaki fingerings, Mr. Kihara inherited old techniques and construction methods,
He is a craftsman who produces many original works that meet current needs.

※ The state of the demonstration in January 2014 is here ↓ Speakers that imaged the legs of stag will also appear!

I will try to interview Mr. Kihara who is demonstrating today because it is a great help ☆

The best work at this exhibition is this pen stand!

In response to requests for me to make a work that can be easily purchased for around 5,000 yen, it seems to be a work created in “Kihara style”.

Please compare the two in the front with the pen stand in the left back.
Can you see the difference?
The work in the back is 10,000 yen + consumption tax, and the two pen stands in the foreground are 6,000 yen + consumption tax respectively.

By the way, the pen stand in the middle,
It is a watermark pattern that a lot of hearts dance.
What a pen stand watermark! It seems that it is possible to order with your favorite pattern.

Mr. Kihara is always working on new works while thinking about puzzles of time, materials, and price.
Among the differences between the two works below, the karakuri is embedded.

If you are concerned, please come to Aoyama Square during the exhibition and ask Mr. Kihara directly.
Demonstration Over there (?) It is a mistake pear to tell a lot of stories♪

This chopsticks! There is a work that surprises you at the tip of the chopsticks!
It’s proof that you haven’t forgotten your play (laughs)

Finally, I asked him a question, “What do you think I’m doing in 10 years?”

He lost weight to 80kg → 71.9kg after dieting last year.
By doing so, the body has become lighter and the condition has improved better than before.

While maintaining this physical strength 10 years from now, we will gradually reduce the work of demonstrations in various places in the future,
I want to be able to sit down and work in my hometown.
For that reason, I am preparing various things now.

I would like to continue to make crafts that fuse tradition and now.

・ The appearance of talking so hotly looked very dazzling.
Mr. Kihara, thank you very much for your talk while you are busy.

Craftsmen perform and experience every week at the crafts section of Aoyama Square.
It is a valuable opportunity to see the “skills” of skilled craftsmen up close.
Please stop by when you come near us.

What do you think?
