More than 130 “small worlds” such as three-dimensional sein that reproduces a scene from the movie gather “100 steps traveling through time”

Hotel Gajoen Tokyo (Location: Meguro-ku, Tokyo / General Manager: Shinichiro Sawa), a museum hotel in Japan, is holding a “100 Steps to Travel through Time” for a limited time until Sunday, April 10, 2022, at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Designated Tangible Cultural Property “Hyakudan”. From Sunday, January 15 to Sunday, March 27, in addition to miniature works made with various techniques under the theme of “Little World”, gorgeous vine decorations and bean chicks are on display. We will publish some of the highlights.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government Designated Tangible Cultural Property “Hyakudandan” is the only wooden building existing in the hotel, built as building No. 3 of the former Meguro Gajoen. In this exhibition, we will introduce episodes from the time of establishment, such as the origins of the gorgeous building and various ideas realized by the founder Rizo Hosokawa, and explore the charm of cultural properties themselves.

In addition, from January 15, works of “Chiisa World” expressed by various techniques such as paper art, dollhouse, and three-dimensional frontage will be exhibited in the exhibition that changes from time to time. In addition, you can enjoy the colors of early spring, such as the historic town on the south bank of Kasumigaura, the vine decorations and creative dolls of Edozaki, Inashiki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and the chisy-e-hina hina of nikiya, a kaiseki restaurant that was built in the same year as the cultural property “Hyakudan”, and is now registered as a tangible cultural property of Japan.

Please enjoy the adorable spring world with various miniature works and gorgeous Hina dolls.

■Highlights (1)   “Small worlds” with different tastes made with various techniques gather
Works such as cats that are so small that can not be seen with the naked eye by miniature woodcarving artist Nobuhisa Koide, lighting paintings by Chiharu Irie with an impressive heartwarming expression, midoriya Wasusa’s dry landscape that expresses works from the world of a small box garden, miniatures of nostalgic scenery by Billy, etc. are exhibited in “Shizusui-no-ma”. In addition, “Kiyokata-no-Ma” exhibits showa retro works such as the scenery of downtown Tokyo by paper artist Takashi Ota, and models in which three-dimensional floor plan artist Takaman Nobuo reproduces a scene from the movie. If you look up at the ceiling, admire the ceiling paintings and transom paintings of powerful cultural assets that jump into your eyes, and lower your eyes, you can experience the mysterious scene where a small world spreads.

■Highlights (2) Exhibit small hina dolls such as colorful bean chicks and tsurushi decorations
When you get off the elevator leading to the cultural property “Hyakudan”, you will first welcome all the wood-made chicks of Asakusabashi “Hara Takasu”. You can see the world of doll beauty unique to Takasu Hara, which inherits the technology of intangible cultural property designation derived by the first Mr. Hara Yonesu and boasts a history of 110 years. In addition, in kusaoka-no-ma, vine decorations and creative dolls by the Edozaki Tsurushibina no Kai in Inashiki City, Ibaraki Prefecture, and small hina dolls owned by Nikiya in Kitaurawa, Saitama Prefecture, are also on display. I feel the arrival of spring in the world of colorful chicks made with a desire for the growth of children one by one.

■ Highlights (3) Selling kits that allow you to experience the pleasure of making
Miniature art is attracting attention as a hobby that adults can enjoy. In this exhibition, we also exhibit and sell items that can be enjoyed at home, such as miniature houses and 3D wood puzzles.
