Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei (Location: Sakyo-ku, Kyoto City, Kyoto Prefecture, Head of The Preparation Office: Tatsuya Shinkawa) will open in Okazaki, Kyoto on Thursday, January 20, 2022. This is the first time in about 20 years that the Hotel Okura brand has opened in Japan, and a small luxury space filled with new crafts of the project unit “GO ON” by six successors who are responsible for kyoto’s traditional crafts will be born. This is the first time that all members of “GO ON” collaborate with the hotel.
With the opening date decided, reservations for accommodation and restaurants will start on Thursday, November 25. Reminiscent of an adult retreat, this hotel offers a tranquil stay where you can enjoy attentive hospitality, contemporary Kyoto beauty and gastronomy.

■”Kyoto’s aesthetic sense of a new era” born in collaboration with “GO ON”
Kyoto’s traditional crafts have developed a unique sense of beauty and sensibilities against the background of a long history. The hotel’s “New Age of Kyoto’s Aesthetics” means contemporary beauty created by pioneering new possibilities and advanced initiatives while inheriting the spirit and technology of traditional crafts that have supported Japanese culture.
In the hotel building, all members of the project unit “GO ON” by six successors who are responsible for traditional crafts gather and original works that breathe a new wind into kyoto’s tradition are set up.
This is the first time that all members of “GO ON” have collaborated with the hotel, and both are one-of-a-kind products produced for “Hotel Okura Kyoto Okazaki Bettei”. Please enjoy the sensibilities awakened by touching the refined handiwork of craftsmen.

In 2015, he was selected as the only Japanese designer under the age of 40 active in Asia at the 40 UNDER 40 Award sponsored by The Perfume Clairvoyant Magazine in Hong Kong.

GO ON
A project unit that conveys the new value of Japanese traditional crafts by six successors who are responsible for kyoto’s traditional crafts, which was established in 2012. While exploring the future and thinking about possibilities, he continues activities that go beyond the world of crafts.

■A space to enjoy as if you were walking around
The lobby area (1st floor), which takes advantage of the characteristics of Japanese architecture that is continuous horizontally, does not have partitions in the space, and by connecting it gently, you can enjoy the scenery spreading out the window to the maximum, and you can experience the modern Kyoto beauty and handiwork studded in the building.
*Entrance
The original lighting by “wire mesh tsuji” carefully knitted by craftsmen one by one of delicate copper wire adds color. By lighting the light, a delicate shade of the wire mesh emerges.
*Reception
Tomoko Kawao, a calligrapher living in Kyoto who is active in Japan and overseas, makes the space elegant. It is an impressive work with drips and splashes of ink.
*Reception to rooms and dining
On the wall from reception to guest room and dining room, nishijinori created by the long-established Nishijin ori “Hosoo”
Installed a wall. The nishijin-ori, composed three-dimensionally by its unique technology, stands out for its sparkle, sublimating it into a more elegant space and gently enveloping the heart of guests who are uplifted by their stay at the hotel.

The wall is decorated with a noren insect basket by the long-established creative bamboo craft manufacturer “Kochosai Kosuge”. Each and every one delicately finished bamboo lattice makes you feel the warmth of natural materials and invites you to a more private space.
*Japanese Garden
In addition to being able to feel the rich nature of the adjacent “Shinshu Otani School Okazaki Betsuin (Higashi Honganji Okazaki Betsuin)”, you can feel the four seasons of Kyoto with beautiful spring gardens with plums and cherry blossoms newly installed on the hotel premises and a garden in Senshu where you can enjoy autumn leaves.

■Rooms in harmony with the surrounding landscape
There are 60 guest rooms with the theme of a mountain villa standing in Higashiyama. In the guest room, it is finished in a room where you can enjoy the texture and natural texture, such as a hosoo nishijin ori that three-dimensionally expresses the surface of the water reflected on the lakeside seen from the mountain villa with original weaving techniques, and a difference shelf that resembles a floor using a log of the famous wood “Kitayama cedar” as a pillar. In addition, welcome art using Karagami paper and works written by calligrapher Tomoko Kawao will welcome you in the suite room.
In addition, the lighting with the room number in the guest room corridor is made using the same manufacturing method as the tea cylinder of “Kaikado”, which has the oldest history in Japan, with a handmade teacules, and you can feel the aging beautification that deepens with time.
