Kazuyuki Futagawa uses rock paint precisely while inheriting the technique of Japanese painting. According to the artist, only rock paint can express the beauty of nature. It is not as heavy as oil painting even after repeated paintings, and is clearly different from watercolors. The design has a delicacy like the feathers of a cicada. In addition, Futagawa often incorporates gold-colored and gilded techniques into his creations. The art shows various expressions depending on the brightness. Incorporating western styles of light and shadow, the flatness of the incidental Japanese paintings is given perspective and texture. In the midst of the tranquil scenery, he sincerely depicts the scene reflected in the artist’s own eyes.

Kazuyuki Futagawa’s work is full of abyssal spirituality. Beyond reality, it turns into a beautiful spiritual landscape just to shine. In recent years, he has pioneered a new area of graphic ink that makes use of the shades of ink, and has been welcomed with deep praise. His masterpiece “Second Difference Two” won the Excellence Award at the Sompo Japan FACE Exhibition in 2013.

In this exhibition, we realize the coexistence of the inner landscape that has come and gone to human psychology with real nature. Please check the sustainable new phase of Futagawa Art.

■   Kazuyuki Futagawa Profile

Born in Takamatsu City, Kagawa Prefecture in 1954. After graduating from the Nihonga Department at Kanazawa University of Art in 1976 and the Graduate School of the Tokyo University of the Arts in 1978, he has been focusing on landscape paintings since his mid-30s. His works depicting a fresh space full of realism are highly acclaimed in exhibitions in Russia and abroad. While inheriting traditional Japanese painting techniques, he meticulously depicts the firm presence of the object with the layering of rock paint, and in order to master the depth in a quiet landscape, his work truly expresses perspective, texture, and presence of objects, sublimating it into an even more beautiful and shining mental landscape beyond realism.
